INTERVIEW: Lucy Johnson

Published on

Playing major parts in shows and aiming to pursue a career in performing sounds like a dream for most.

But for some lucky people, it’s very much a reality.

Lucy Johnson, a Year 12 student from Altrincham, has performed in many shows both inside and outside of school.

She said “I was never really interested in singing or performing until high school, however I auditioned for the school musical in Year 9 and quickly discovered my love for performing. It’s grown ever since!”

In 2018, Miss Johnson joined Manchester Musical Youth (MMY), an award-winning theatre company and said it has changed her life.

MMY have a variety of shows each year and the performers in their main cast are aged 13-19.

The company have put on shows including Les Miserables, Legally Blonde and Jekyll and Hyde.

"I've gained so much confidence in myself as a performer and that has hugely helped me develop my confidence offstage too!"

She added "I’ve loved each show I’ve been in so much, but I think I’d have to say Oliver was my favourite in 2019. The experience I had rehearsing and performing the show made me realise that I wanted to pursue acting and musical theatre as a career.”

Miss Johnson played the leading female Role of Nancy in the performance.

When speaking about the future, Miss Johnson said “next year I'm hoping to audition for various drama schools down in London to continue my drama studies there! I'm hoping to pursue a career in musical theatre and acting afterwards."

"I would encourage anyone with a passion for performing to join MMY. It is such an amazing company that I will forever be grateful to be a part of it!”
